Regarding requests for fabric test

Q

What does “when the test is needed” mean?

A

When a supplier provides the fabric or products to another company, submitting a report on quality check may be needed. Some suppliers have their own standards established and the tests are conducted according to their standard. In addition, the tests are also needed to obtain OEKO-TEX®, Eco leather, and SEK etc. certificates. Apart from that, tests are also carried out with a purpose of comparing finished and unfinished functional fabric and for accumulation of company data.

What kind of tests does Nissenken provide?

A

We mainly accept JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) tests related to Textile. Apart from that, we also conduct tests according to International standards such as ISO, GB etc. and various standards.

Q

How many days does it take for the delivery date?

A

For common tests, the report can be sent within 4 business days from the day the samples were received. In case of a request in a hurry, please contact us with both the test content and desired delivery date. Please note that it may take some time depending on the test contents (animal hair blend, heavy metals, OEKO-TEX® certificate, and the number of processing time).

What is the needed sample size?

A

The size differs according to woven fabric, knit fabric and the test conducted. Please refer to the below link for the main sample sizes for fabric test.

Is it possible to conduct a mixture ratio test for animal hair?

A

The test is possible. It takes about 7 10 days to test; however, it may take more time during the busy period. In addition, at the time of your request, please be sure to inform the receptionist if animal hair is contained and if a mixture ratio test for animal hair is needed.

Regarding certificates

Q

Where should I inquire regarding certificates?

A

Please directly inquire with the laboratory that issued the certificate. Also, at the time of your inquiry, please provide the certificate number that begins with “Doo-“ .

What does the numbers 1 5 represent for the result of color fastness etc.?

A

It is a result based on the judgement by grade series. Evaluated in 9 stages: From 1, 1-2, 2, 2-3, 3, 3-4, 4, 4-5, to 5. The larger the number, the less there is change of color or staining which means the result is good.

What does “Change,” “Stain,” and “Solution” represent for the result of color fastness?

A

“Change,” “Stain,” and “Solution” are abbreviations for change of color, staining and solution staining: Change of color represents discoloration (color change), fade in color, lose color (fading)
Staining represents migration on the standard adjacent fabric
Solution staining represents staining from solutions used as a solvent for washing and dry-cleaning

What does “N” indicate as a unit of Physical Performance test?

A

N indicates Newton, 1N=0.1019kgf (approx. 100gf). For example,

I do not know how to read the numerical value for Formaldehyde.

A

For Formaldehyde, there are regulated values under “Act on Control of Household Products Containing Harmful Substances” for infants and items other than infants in Japan. 24-month-old or younger, is covered under infants and the absorbance difference is below 0.05. For items other than infants such as underwear, pajamas and socks etc. the absorbance difference is 75ppm. Also, depending on the supplier the numerical value may be lower than the regulated value.

Regarding fabric inspection

Q

How do you conduct fabric inspection?

A

We use a fabric winding inspection machine. Upon request, the inspection staff will visually inspect the fabric while winding the machine. We check the length, width, compare color and pattern samples and defects (of weaving and dyeing) as well as making description of defects and certificate etc.

At what speed is the fabric inspection done?

A

The speed may differ based on the contents, but normally 15 to 30m per minutes. The fabric winding machine is used; therefore, it can be adjusted upon request.

What is the possible width for fabric inspection?

A

Fabric and knit from 50 175cm wide is possible for inspection.

What are the standards for fabric inspection?

A

The standards are determined according to the client’s desire. Also, if the supplier has their own standard, we will apply that standard.

Q

How is the certificate for fabric inspection?

A

An original format is prepared with the manufacturers name, product number, color number, defect contents, description for the position of the defect etc. and filled in according to the standard for each roll. Also, a general comment is filled in.

How do you indicate the location of the defects?

A

It is indicated by a white fastener on the selvage. Also, upon the client’s request we can put stickers directly on the location of the defect.

Regarding garment inspection

How do you conduct garment inspection?

A

We check the appearance, sewing, the difference between the standard dimension and the finished dimension etc. Also, we check the garment labelling. All our inspection centers can correspond with various types, such as 100% inspection and inspection lot etc.

How do you conduct needle detection?

A

We check if there are any foreign materials, such as needles, with a needle detector. Also, our Yantai Laboratory, Nantong Gangzha District Inspection Center, Nantong-Chong Chuan Laboratory, and Nantong Laboratory has the X-ray inspection machine installed corresponding not only to apparel clothing but for sundries as well.

What are the inspection standards?

A

If the supplier has their own standard, we apply that standard for inspection quantity etc. of inspection lot. If the supplier does not have their own standards follow JIS Z 9015 “A. Q. L2.5 normal inspection.”

Q

How do we request garment inspection?

A

Upon inquiry, please send the form for each specified center from the manufacturer (factory) to the nearest inspection center. We may have the client or factory send us the tentative reservation form or confirmed reservation form when there are provisions for designated inspections etc.
